국제화 추세 및 국가적 차원의 적극적 노력은 외국 유학생의 지속적 증가를 가져올 것으로 예측된다. 외국 유학생은 학업이라는 본래의 목적을 수행하는 과정에서 다양한 교류와 활동을 수행하는데 이들이 유학하고 있는 국가의 관광산업에 미치는 영향은 결코 작지 않다. 특히, 외국 유학생과 외국 유학생의 모국에서 오는 친구 및 친지 방문(VFR)은 유학하는 국가의 관광산업에 직·간접적인 영향을 미치며, 인바운드 관광의 중요한 세분시장으로 분류 가능하다. 그러나 이에 대한 관심과 연구는 거의 이루어지지 못하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 연구목적을 설정하였다. 첫째, 외국 유학생의 VFR 관광 특성을 조사하고, 둘째, 관광 이미지, 관광 만족, VFR 관광 호스트 역할 간의 영향관계를 조사하였다. 셋째, VFR 관광특성에 따라 VFR 관광 호스트 역할에 차이가 있는지 조사하였다. 분석결과 외국 유학생 VFR 관광의 몇 가지 특징적 사항이 도출되었다. 또한, 관광 이미지는 관광 만족과 VFR 관광 호스트 역할에 정(+)의 영향을 미치며, 관광 만족은 VFR 관광 호스트 역할에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 추가적으로 VFR 관광 특성에 따라 VFR 관광 호스트 역할에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 이론적 시사점과 실무적 시사점을 제시하였다.
It is expected that dynamic efforts by the government for globalization will draw the continual increase in foreign students. Foreign students are likely to be involved in a variety of exchanges or activities while carrying out schoolwork, their original goal. Accordingly, the impact they have on national tourism industry is not slim. In particular their visit and visit of their friends and relatives(VFR) from their homeland have a direct or indirect impact on national tourism industry and are possible to be classified as a crucial market for inbound tourism. However the interest in the issue has been hardly investigated. Therefore the study set the following purposes. First, the study examined characteristics of VFR tourism of foreign students. Second, the study analyzed the influence among the factors such as tourism image, tourist satisfaction and role of tour host for VFR. Third, the study was to investigate the differences in the role of tour host based on the characteristics of VFR tourism. The analysis showed several characteristics of VFR tourism of foreign students. The result also demonstrated that tourism image has a positive(+) influence on the role of tour host for VFR and tourist satisfaction and tourist satisfaction has a positive(+) influence on the role of tour host as well. The role of tour host for VFR proved to be different according to characteristics of VFR tourism. Based on this result, this study was discussed the theoretical and managerial implications.
