A Critical Analyses on East Asia and East Asia in the History Texts Kim, Sung-Soo Since 1990’s a conceptualizing the notion of East Asia has been a main subject among the intellectual societies in Korea. There are several factors have caused these phenomena in Korea. The most important one is some changes on the international order around East Asia that mainly have been caused by the ending of the Cold War and the emerging of Chinese national power. Recently the competition for the supremacy in East Asia between China and Japan has been occurred some grave concerns among Asian countries include Korea. Under this present circumstances Korea needs new diplomatic strategies faces to the new international order, and also needs new positioning herself in Asia. So “What is East Asia?” this question related to these demands kind of the identifying herself, same as Japan had done several decades ago. For the new identification or new positioning of Korea in East Asia, we need some historical approaches about the international order among East Asian countries. But most of these present analyses about this topic extremely inclined toward the Chinese World Order an the Sinocentrism during the premodern era which had been conducted by the most of chinese historians and some historians of the western countries who have believed the western impact to Asia. In this paper I emphasized the Sinocentrism and historical materials written in Chinese have distorted our understandings to the asian history and our national history itself. So for our profound knowledge and new understandings on the East Asia, in this paper I present the multi-centered World Order during the premodern era in East Asia aside from the chinese middle kingdom, and suggest a new space concept “East Eurasia”.
