본 논문의 목적은 조선조 전기 성리학이 점차 수용되고 확산되어 감에 따라 실천적 유학이 강조되고 있었던 당시의 사상적 풍토 속에서, 경전강학(經典講學)을 중심으로 철학적 사색을 심화시키고 그 사회적 실천을 위해 향교(鄕校)교육의 강조를 역설한 김종직의 사상적 특성을 고찰하고자 함에 있다. 김종직의 삶은 조선조 초기 문화가 융성하게 꽃 핀 세종대의 사회정치적 안정에서 시작되어 여러 차례 정변을 경험한 뒤 성종대의 새로운 정교문화가 연결되던 시기였다. 김종직이 학교에서의 경전강학을 강조하면서 효제충신(孝悌忠信)의 가르침을 중요시한 것은 경전의 정신을 정치면과 사회면에 실천하자는 것이 그의 근본이념이었기 때문이다. 그는 유학교육의 입문서와 같은 구실을 하고 있는 『소학(小學)』의 실천을 장려하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울였으며 배움을 구하는 제자들에게 끼친 영향이 많았다. 김종직은 지방관 시절 직분에 걸맞게 항상 인재양성과 백성교화에 많은 노력을 기울이며, 지속적으로 향교의 진흥방안을 도모하였고 아울러 제자 양성을 통해 유교문화의 토착화에 힘쓰고 성취한 부분에 대해서 우리는 일정한 평가를 부여할 수 있을 것이다. 김종직의 사상이 시대적으로 높은 의미를 지니며, 가치를 부여할 수 있는 점은 바로 당대 사림의 행동방향을 주도적으로 선도했다는 데에서 확인할 수 있다.
This thesis aims to examine the ideological attributes of Kim Jong Jik(金宗直) who deepened the philosophical mediation centering on scripture studies and emphasized the education of Hyanggyo (鄕校: the Confucian temple and school to teach students in the Joseon Dynasty period) through its social practices, in the ideological climate that focused on the practice Confucianism as the Neo-Confucianism was becoming more accepted and spread out in the early Joseon Dynasty. Kim Jong Jik's life began in the socially and politically stable period of King Sejong(世宗), when the cultures of the early days of the Joseon Dynasty flourished, and went through several political upheavals and entered the period of new religious and political cultures being continued in the times of King Sung Jong(成宗). Stressing scripture studies in schools, Kim Jong Jik attached great importance to the lesson of filial piety and brotherly love together with loyalty and sincerity because it was his fundamental philosophy that the spirit of the scriptures should be practiced in the political and social sides. He made much effort to encourage the exercises of ''The Small Learning" which functions as a book for beginners for Confucian education and greatly influenced the disciples who sought for learning. Kim Jong Jik, befitting his position as a local official, made great efforts to cultivate men of ability and enlighten the people at all time and continuously encouraged the promotional plans for the Hyanggyo and along with these, he worked hard on the indigenity of Confucian cultures through fostering disciples and for his accomplished parts, we can provide certain evaluations. Kim Jong Jik's thoughts have high timely significance and can be given values; this is found in that he played a leading role in the line of action of Sarim(士林) in those times.
