본 연구는 다채널 환경이 성숙하면서 지상파 텔레비전 시청 행태의 변화가 어떻게 나타나는지 장르와 연령대별로 알아보았다. 시청률과 시청 충실도 그리고 이중위험 현상을 중심으로 시청 행태의 변화를 양적인 측면과 질적인 측면에서 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 시청률 감소폭은 장르에 따라서 다른 양상으로 나타났고 가장 큰 감소폭을 보인 장르는 영화였으며 뉴스의 감소폭이 가장 작았다. 연령대에 따른 시청률 변화 역시 장르에 따라 달랐으며 특히 뉴스에 있어서는 연령대가 낮을수록 시청률 하락 폭이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 시청의 질적인 측면을 위해 분석한 시청 충실도 변화에서 뉴스의 전체 시청 충실도 감소는 유의미하지 않았으나 뉴스 프로그램별 시청 충실도가 상이하게 나타났다. 오락과 영화 장르에서의 시청 충실도는 모두 하락하였다. 연령대별 시청 충실도는 오락과 영화 장르에서는 모두 낮아졌으나 뉴스의 20대와 30대 시청자층에서는 상승하는 경향을 보였다. 시청률과 시청 충실도의 정적인 관계를 나타내는 이중위험 현상의 감소는 분석 대상 장르 모두에서 나타났다. 이로써 다채널 환경에서 프로그램의 시청률이 높을수록 충실도가 높아지는 이중위험 현상은 약화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 한편, 연령대별 이중위험 현상은 오락과 영화에서 전반적으로 약해졌으며 뉴스에서는 30대와 40대를 제외하고 이중위험 현상의 감소가 유의미하지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌다.
The study explored the changes of network television viewing patterns focusing on program genres and age groups of audiences. The differences of ratings, program viewing fidelity, and double jeopardy were analyzed to verify both quality and quality of network television viewing changes. The results showed that the decreases of ratings were differ for each genre. The ratings of movies decreased more than news and entertainment programs. News ratings dropped less than other two genres. As for the news, younger audiences showed more decrease of ratings. The program viewing fidelity, to examine the quality of audience behaviors, did not show a significant decrease in news genre. However, each news program had different program viewing fidelity changes. The program viewing fidelity dropped in both entertainment programs and movies, which genres also showed significant decreases in every age groups of audiences. Only 20s and 30s of news audiences had higher program viewing fidelity in 2008 compared to the year of 2000. The decrease of the double jeopardy effect was significant for all three genres, news, entertainment, and movie, which implies that the dependency on ratings of loyal behaviors in network television viewing had diminished. The phenomenon of the double jeopardy had weakened in most age groups for entertainment and movie genre. The decrease of the double jeopardy effect was not significant except 30s and 40s in news.
