본 연구는 어린이들을 위한 동화에 나타나 있는 매터니티(maternrty, 모성)에 대하여 반성적 검토를 하는 데 목적을 두었다. 동화에서의 매터니티는 사랑, 양육, 보육과 같은 긍정적 패턴과 금지와 통제와 같은 부정적 교육패턴을 함께 가진다. 그러나 17, 18세기 이전부터 구전설화로 전해오던 여러 가지 설화들이 어린이들을 위한 이야기로 고쳐서 전해지고, 이런 이야기들이 안델센이나 그림과 같은 동화작가에 의해 재창작되어 현재까지 그 특성이 이어져 내려오는데, 동화에는 ‘전통적인’ 여성관. 모성관이 반영되어 있다. 그것은 대체로 가부장적 남성(patriarchy)관을 기본으로 하고 있기 때문에 왜곡되어 있으며, 특히 여성은 가정에 한정적이고 자기희생적 봉사가 미덕이며, 이상형으로 묘사되어 있다. 이러한 남성본위의 편향적 이고 왜곡된 매터니티는 이제 수정되고 개선되어야 할 것이다. 특히 여성이나 모성을 기본적으로 ‘자아실현 적 존재’로 보는 실존주의적 시각이 필요하다고 본다.즉 매터니티의 올바른 이해와 접근을 위해서는 남성적 시각으로 왜곡된 매터니티를 해체하고, 실존주의적 시각에서 매터니티를 재구성하는 일이 필요하다. 해체주의적 관점은 양분화된 편파적 성관념 및 태도보다는 양성의 장점을 함께 지닌 양성적 특성을 고취하는 것이 아이들을 좀더 독립적으로 볼 수 있게 하는 해야 하는 것이다. 실존적 시각은 여성을 자아실현적 존재, 즉 하나의 존엄하고 창조적인 인격체로 보는 시각이다. 이러한 기본관점에서 건강한 매터니티가 어린이의 동화를 비롯한 교재에 적극적으로 반영되도록 해야 한다.
The Purpose of the present study is to review on the maternity expressed in the fairy tales. The maternity in the fairy means love and bringing up positively , and the maternity in the fairy means prohibition and regulation negatively. The maternity in the fairy since 17-18 century had been written and handed down as patriarchism. The maternity is a subordinated and self-sacrificing attributed for the family. And the wrong understanding on the maternity should be modified as follows; Firstly, the view on the maternity in fairy tales is to be disorganized. The partial views and attitudes on sexes are modified, Each sex has its own characteristics, woman can make the most of something's characteristics as female, man can make the most of something's characteristics as male, because each has strength and weakness. Woman shows a special quality as female, and man shows a special quality as male. This makes children think their mother and father independently. Secondly, we need understanding the maternity in the fairy as existentialism. This existentialism means self-realization, the self-realization is related to personality, and woman builds up one's character as being, and we need to respect their personality, because woman is personality for their honor, and they have the creativity and dignity of man, and these creativity and dignity should not be impaired. The maternity in the fairy based on the disorganization and existentialism is to need reflective thinking on the maternity in fairy tales education.
