The purpose of this study is to get basic information for helping children's social adaptation by investigating parents' perceptions of children's emotional maladaptation behaviors and ways of parents' instruction against the behaviors. To get answers to these questions, the researcher sampled 440 parents of children from early childhood education centers located in Busan. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, parents' perceptions of children's withdrawal, regressive and immature behaviors as sub-areas of their emotional maladaptation behaviors were not significantly different in those children's gender and age. Parents' perceptions of children's hyperactive, aggressive and compulsive behaviors were significantly different in accordance with those children's age, but not in accordance with their gender. Whether parents' perceptions of children's emotional maladaptation behaviors are different in accordance with those parents' age, educational background and financial income was investigated here to find that there was no significant difference in parents' perceptions of children's aggressive behaviors in accordance with those parents' gender, educational background and financial income. Parents' perceptions of children's hyperactive, withdrawal, regressive, immature and compulsive behaviors were significantly different in accordance with those parents' age, educational background and monthly income. Second, according to children's gender and age, ways of parents' instruction were not significantly different against those children's withdrawal and compulsive behaviors, but significantly different against those children's hyperactive, aggressive, regressive and immature behaviors. Against any of children's emotional maladaptation behaviors, a way of instruction most often taken by parents. was 'ask a reason and then pacify'. There were significant differences in ways of parents' instruction against all sub-areas of children's emotional maladaptation behaviors, or withdrawal, hyperactive, aggressive, regressive, immature and compulsive behaviors in accordance with those parents' age, educational background and monthly income.
