Questioning about the adult acquisition of tense form in Korean, this research first analyzed the quantitative distribution of '-ess-' under the circumstances of talks. Then, this research took a look at the strategic characteristic of '-ess-' while analyzing grammatical and discourse function of '-ess-'. As a result of doing research on this case, this study was able to draw the hypothetical conclusion as follows: First, the Korean learners like international marriage migrant women are found to use '-ess-' as a major mark of the expression of the past time. Second, the results showed that they used '-ess-' even when they indicated the present state, and such a phenomenon can be explained that they mastered a vocabulary combined with '-ess-' as a unit. Third, either '-ess-' can be used to realize the expression of the manner of linking the past event to the present state, or it can be strategically non-used to realize the vivid description of the past event.
