본 연구는 미국 고등학생들의 경제지식을 테스트하는 TEL을 이용하여 전남 동부지역 고등학교 학생들의 경제 이해력수준을 계량적으로 측정하여 그 수준을 확인함과 동시에 학생들의 경제 이해력에 영향을 미치는 변인들을 실증적으로 파악하려 하고 있다. 이를 위해 경제 이해력 시험지를 이용한 시험점수 결과와 관심 변인을 이용한 다중회귀분석을 통해 경제이해력에 영향을 미치는 유의한 변인들을 찾아내고 있다. 분석 결과를 선행연구들과 비교함으로써 전남 동부지역 고등학생들의 경제이해력과 관련한 특징적 정보를 찾아내는 한편, 그런 정보들이 고등학교 경제교육에 대해서 담고 있는 정책적 시사점을 제시하고 있다. 분석 결과에 따르면 고등학교 경제 교육은 학생들의 과목 선택권을 무시하는 데 따르는 문제점을 분명하게 보여주고 있으며, 경제 및 사회교사에 대한 대학에서의 양성과 재교육에 많은 문제점이 있음을 알 수 있다.

This paper tries to analyze the level and determinants of the economic literacy of the high school students in the east Chonnam area of Korea. We obtain the data from doing a test of Test of Economic Literacy and a questionnaire survey at the high schools in the autumn of 2004. We build an multiple regression model and test variables to find out statistically significant determinants of their economic literacy. We then compare the outcomes with two preceding papers of Walstad and Soper(1988) for USA and Chun(1993) for Korea. We have found out some differences among them and tried to obtain some useful implications for economics education for high school students in the east Chonnam area of Korea.
