This study examines the effects of children's personal psychological variables and parents' attitudes toward child rearing on young children's internal conflicts and external behavioral  problems. Subjects were 134 five-year-old children attending day-care centers and kindergartens in Seoul, Korea. Statistical correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression techniques were used to analyze the relationship between the aforementioned variables. The result of the study shows that children's temperament and social competence and parents' attitudes toward child rearing statistically have a significant correlation to young children's behavioral problems. In particular, children’s temperament and parents' rejective attitudes toward child rearing are found to result in children’s internal conflicts, while children's temperaments and social competence in conjunction with the parents' rejective attitudes toward rearing produce external behavioral problems.
