본 연구는 에코페미니즘의 관점을 바탕으로 하여 그림책 『리디아의 정원』에 등장하는 인물들을 탐색함으로써, 아동문학의 인물들에 대한 보다 심층적인 해석을 꾀하고자 시도하였다. 연구 결과, 작품 속에서 인물들은 생명의 시원으로서의 여성, 생명과 생명을 잇는 여성의 돌봄, 도시와 문명을 복원시키는 여성의 힘을 드러내고 있었다. 『리디아의 정원』은 여성인물을 통해 남성 중심의 문명 세계에서 여성 중심의 자연으로의 변화과정, 그리고 여성과 남성이 어우러지는 관계맺음 속에서 살아나는 생명의 순환성을 보여주고 있다.
Using an ecofeminism perspective, to explore the characters in the picturebook 『The Gardener』, this study provides an insightful tool to analyze characters in children's literature. Our analysis finds “the Gardener” to reveal woman as the origin of life. Woman's care is the connecting force of life to life, and woman's power has the capability of restoring city and civilization. Despite having failed to fully depict the image of progressive and expansive heroines in the book, 『The Gardener』, nonetheless, reveals a transformative process of the female-dominated nature from the male-dominated civilized world, and the circularity of life, recovered through a harmonized male-female relationship.
