다문화 교육과정을 설계하기 위해서는 다문화주의에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 한다. 이 연구는, 다문화주의에 대한 자유주의와 공동체주의 담론을 메타인지적 관점에서 분석하고, 한국에서다문화 교육을 위해서는 다양성과 공동선의 가치를 융합한 담론이 필요함을 제안하였다. 아울러 유아의 발달특성을 반영하여 자유선택 능력의 개발, 공동체 의식의 기초형성, 문화적 감수성 및 다문화 이해의 기초함양, 창의력 향상 등을 교육목표로 설정하였고, 이와 관련하여 교육내용, 교수․학습방법, 평가방법 등 유아 다문화교육과정 설계방안에 대해 진술하였다.
In order to design a multicultural curriculum, above all, multiculturalism should be understood. This study is then to analyze the discourse of liberalism and community-oriented thoughts on multiculturalism from a meta-cognitive perspective and suggest for the multicultural education of young children in Korea that we need a new set of discourse in which diversity and community value are combined together. It is also to suggest that we need a new form of multicultural early childhood curriculum which will enhance the development of free-choice capability, the cultivation of community-consciousness, the learning of cultural diversity, and the creativity. In this context, multicultural curriculum design is to be discussed with regard to educational contents, teaching-learning methods, and evaluation methods.
