그림책은 사회가 가치 있게 여기는 문화를 반영하는 문화적 산물이다. 상징적 상호작용론에 의하면 유아들은 문화적 산물인 그림책을 통해 아버지에 대한 의미를 구성하고 이는 내면화되어 개인의 행동에 영향을 미친다. 본 연구는 유아가 일상적으로 접하는 중요한 문화적 산물인 그림책에서 아버지가 어떻게 묘사되고 있는지 전반적인 경향을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 국내의 도서 판매 상위 6개 서점의 베스트셀러와 권장도서 목록, 서울시와 부산시에 위치한 어린이 도서관의 개관이후 대출 순위 목록과 국내외 수상작을 중심으로 아버지가 등장하는 도서 총 500권의 도서를 선정하여 아버지의 등장배경, 함께 등장하는 인물, 감정표현, 부모 행동 유형에 대해 분석하였다. 수집된 자료는 내용분석 후 빈도와 백분율로 처리하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 아버지는 집밖(41.69%)보다는 집안(52.66%)에서 등장하였으며 둘째, 아들과 함께(40.26%), 딸과 함께(28.26%), 혼자(21.49%)순으로 등장하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 아버지는 웃기와 같은 긍정적 감정(55.05%)을 부정적 감정(42.18%)보다 더 표현하였으며 넷째, 부모 행동 유형은 일상생활 활동(24.73%), 놀이접촉(23.92%), 전반적인 터치(14.85%)순으로 나타났으며 보육활동(8.63%), 기능접촉(6.66%), 가사노동(5.03%), 정서적지지(4.96%), 방관이나 부부싸움, 폭력, 무기력과 같은 기타활동(4.12%), 직업활동(3.20%)로 나타났다.
Picture books are cultural products that reflect the valuable culture of the society. According to symbolic interaction theory, children constitute the meaning of father through picture books as cultural products, and this meaning is internalized, and affects the behavior of individuals. The purpose of this study is to examine father’s character models exposed to children and change of father’s characters, through analysis of fathers portrayed in domestic and translated children’s picture books. Research issues according to the study are as follows: What is the character of father in children’s picture books in which father appeared? In children’s picture books, father present at home, appears with son, express positive emotion, and has lots of daily life activity, playful contact and overall touching, so father is positive presence. In children’s picture books in which father and mother both appeared, father present at home, but don’t have interaction with children actively, express positive and negative emotion equally, and has lots of daily life activity, playful contact and overall touching. On the other hand, in children’s picture books in which father alone appeared, father present at outdoors, has more frequent interaction with children, express more positive emotion overwhelmingly, and has lots of playful contact, daily life activity and overall touching.
