본 논문은 동북아시아에 세계에서 가장 큰 제국을 건설했던 만주족이 그들이 처한 환경의 변화 및 타 민족과의 문화적 교류와 그 흥망성쇠에 따라 어떠한 혼례습속을 만들고, 발전시켜 왔는가를 살펴보는데 목적을 두었다. 본 연구에서는 다음의 내용을 포괄하였다. 첫째, 고대 만주족 혼인습속을 크게 숙신, 읍루, 물길, 말갈 시기와 여진시기 그리고 중원진입시기로 나누어 각 시기의 특징과 발전과정을 고찰하였다. 둘째, 고대 만주족 혼인제도의 특징을 고찰해 보았다. 만주족은 씨족외혼과 동성불혼을 주로 하면서 수계혼(收繼婚), 일부일처제와 일부다처제의 병존, 약탈혼 및 노역혼의 전통을 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 만주족의 혼례절차는 그 역사와 지리적 환경에 따라 매우 다양했다. 청대 초기까지만 해도 만주족의 혼례방식은 그 원래의 전통에 따라 소박한 의례절차를 유지했다. 하지만 중원 진입 후 한족 문화의 영향을 받아 그 의식이 점점 복잡하게 변모하였다. 요컨대, 만주족의 혼례습속은 세계의 다른 민족의 혼인습속과 유사하게 그들이 처한 환경적 영향 하에 생성 발전 되었다. 하지만 만주족의 경우 중원에 진입한 후 문화적으로 우월한 지위에 있던 한족의 유교 문화에 많은 부분에서 동화되었다. 그리고 현대에 들어와서는 서구문화의 충격으로 중국 내 한족의 전통 혼례습속도 거의 찾아보기 힘들 정도로 보편화 되어가고 있다.
This paper has a purpose on looking into Manchu, who established the biggest empire in the world, creating and developing marriage customs according to the environmental change they were in, their cultural exchange with other nations and those ups and downs. This study included following contents. First of all, this studies characteristics and the developing process of each period historically. Secondly, this studies characteristics of ancient Manchu wedding customs. Thirdly, the wedding process of Manchu varies according to its history and geographical environment. In short, marriage customs of Manchu, similarly to other nations' marriage customs, has been created and developed under an environmental influence they were in. However, in the case of Manchu, after entering the center of China, in many parts, has assimilated to confucian ethical code of Han ethnic which was on the superior status. And in modern days even traditional marriage customs of Han ethnic in china is becoming generalized hard enough to find by the shock of western culture.
