본 연구에서는 커뮤니케이션이 소프트웨어 개발팀의 효과성에 미치는 영향을 규명하였다. 본 연구의 조사 대상이 된 78개 소프트웨어 개발팀의 응답을 분석한 결과에서는 커뮤니케이션이 소프트웨어 개발팀의 효과성에 중요한 영향을 주는 요소라는 것이 나타났다. 소프트웨어 개발팀의 효과성을 구성하는 변수 중에서 특히 소프트웨어 품질에 결정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 커뮤니케이션 관련 변수로는 팀내 커뮤니케이션 매체의 충실도, 사용자와의 커뮤니케이션 매체의 충실도, 팀내 커뮤니케이션의 개방성, 사용자와의 커뮤니케이션의 개방성과 양 등이 소프트웨어 개발팀의 효과성에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 전통적으로 소프트웨어 개발팀의 효과성에 가장 중요한 영향 요소로 알려져 있는 기술은 본 연구에서는 팀 구성원의 만족에는 긍정적인 영향을 주지만 납기준수, 예산준수, 품질 등에는 거의 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 가설과는 달리 팀내 커뮤니케이션 매체의 충실도는 부정적인 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 충실도가 높은 커뮤니케이션 매체(예, 면대면 대화, 전화통화)가 오히려 팀의 효과성을 낮추는 결과를 보였다.

This study is on the influences of communication on the effectiveness of software development teams. 78 software development teams were surveyed on this study. The consequence of the survey analysis is that communication is a very important determinant of effectiveness of software development teams. Especially, influence on software quality is eminent. Communication variables which determine the effectiveness of software development teams are richness of communication media, openness of communication, and volume amount of communication. The technological factors, which have been treated as most important factor in previous studies, influence only on satisfaction of team members, but they don't influence on quality of software, delivery time, and budget. A hypothesis: Face-to-face communication (the richest communication media) would be most effective in communication among team members was rejected. Rich communication media influenced negatively on effectiveness of software development teams. The cause of negative influence of face-to-face communication may be the Korean traditional culture. The meaning of the negative effect was discussed in this study.
