본고는 사업서비스 생산성 제고를 위한 방안을 모색하기 위해 사업서비스업 노동생산성 결정요인에 대해 실증분석을 시도하였다. 분석을 위해 통계청 기업활동조사의 2006년-2009년 기업 패널 자료를 사용하였으며 기업의 규모, 인적자본, 자본투입량, 기술진보, 효율성, 지역 등 생산성에 영향을 미친다고 판단되는 다양한 기업특성 변수들을 설명변수로 활용하였다. 또한 세부산업별로 생산성 결정요인이 다를 수 있음을 감안하여 IT서비스업, 연구개발업, 전문서비스업 및 사업지원서비스업으로 세분하여 실증 분석하였다. 분석결과를 살펴보면 사업서비스업의 생산성은 기업의 규모가 커질수록 높아지는 것으로 분석되었으며, 사업서비스업 내 인적자본이 많이 축적되어 있을수록 생산성이 높아지는 경향이 나타났다. 또한 전문서비스업이나 사업지원서비스업의 경우 자본집약도의 상승도 생산성을 개선시키는 효과가 뚜렷이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 실증 분석 결과는, 사업서비스업의 생산성 제고를 위해서는 M&A 등을 통해 기업의 대형화를 유도하여 규모의 경제를 추구하는 한편 우수인력 유치 및 교육 강화 등을 통해 인적자본을 확충해 나가야 한다는 점을 시사한다. 또한 전문서비스업과 사업지원서비스업의 경우 인적자본 확충과 동시에 물적 자본의 확대도 유도해 나갈 필요가 있다.
This study conducts an empirical analysis on the determinants of labor productivity for the purpose of seeking methods to improve productivity in Korean business services. To perform the empirical analysis, this study uses the 2006-2009 micro panel data from the Statistics Korea’s 「Survey of Business Structure and Activities」 and utilizes various firm-specific variables, which are considered to affect productivity, as explanatory variables. In addition, this study subdivides business services into IT service, research and development, professional service and business support service to perform the empirical analysis. The analysis results show that the bigger the firm size, the higher the productivity is. Moreover, productivity tends to improve as the human capital in business service accumulates. The results also indicate that the increase of capital intensity in professional service and business support service definitely improves productivity. Such empirical analysis results suggest that for the purpose of enhancing productivity in business services, economy of scale should be pursued by encouraging each firm to expand through M&A and other methods. In addition, human capital should be expanded by strengthening internal training. Lastly, the results imply that policy makers should make an effort to simultaneously expand both human capital and physical capital for professional and business support services.
