이 연구는 대학(교) 관광 관련학과 학생들을 중심으로 대학교 원어민 영어 수업에 대한 전반적인 사항을 살펴보고 이에 따른 효율적인 방안 마련을 목적으로 실시되었다. 좀 더 구체적으로 학생들이 원어민 교수 수업에 대해 실질적으로 어느 정도 효율적이라고 인식하는지, 2년제 학생들과 4년제 학생들 간 및 영어에 대한 평소 관심도가 원어민 수업 효율성 인식과 관계가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 덧붙여 영어에 대한 관심도 정도에 따라 원어민 수업 후 영어 공부에 대한 필요성 인식, 영어 사용에 대한 두려움 해소, 영어 공부에의 동기부여에 차이가 있는지 분석하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 영어 원어민 수업의 효과를 높이기 위해 학생들이 교사들의 어떤 조건들을 선호하며, 수업을 통해 어떤 영역을 배우기를 기대하는지를 조사하였다. 본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 하여 이들이 사회로 나아가 실무에서 직접 사용할 수 있는 원어민 영어 교육에 중점을 두었다는 점, 또한 교육의 수혜자인 학생들의 효율성에 대한 스스로의 인식을 조사하고 이에 더 효율적인 방안을 강구하고자 분석을 실시하였다는 점에서 요즘 이슈가 되고 있는 학생들의 기호에 맞춘 교육 실현에 도전하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이로서 실제 관광산업 관련학과를 둔 여러 대학에서 대학교 유형에 맞추어 (2년제 및 4년제) 원어민 교수를 초빙하고 커리큘럼 기획 시 실질적으로 유용하게 활용할 수 있는 기초자료로 활용될 수 있으리라 기대된다.

This study investigates the actual situation of English education using native English speaking instructors. The subjects of this study are the university students in tourism related department in Seoul and metropolitan area and the objective of this study is to seek the best direction of the class by native English speaking instructors. The result shows that more than 80% of students understand that the tourism English classes by native English speaking instructors are effective. Most of all, the degree of interest on English affect positively on the items related to the degree of efficiency such as the recognition of the importance of English study, increasing motivation, and decreasing fear. Students regarded that the instructors' educational background, major, teaching experience and the Korean speaking ability are important.
