본 연구는 관광개발에 대한 지역민의 태도변화에 대한 이해를 높이고, 실증분석에 나타난 결과를 토대로 현재 슬로시티를 이용한 관광개발이 진행 중인 신안군 증도의 개발방향에 대한 논의를 제시하기 위해 구성되었다. 이를 위해서, 사회적교환이론, 관광지 라이프 사이클 이론, 수용력이론, 사회적붕괴이론 등 기존의 관광객의 태도변화에 대한 이론들을 고찰하고, 이를 증도의 사례에 연결시켜 설명하고자 시도했다. 또한, 최근 급격히 늘어난 증도의 방문객 수의 변화를 연구의 기점으로 하여, 급격한 성장에 따른 지역주민의 슬로시티와 관광개발의 영향에 대한 태도변화를 보다 분명하게 나타나도록 하기위해 노력했다. 실증분석의 결과, 증도주민의 관광에 대한 태도는 조금은 부정적으로 변해가는 것을 알 수 있었고, 그럼에도 지역의 경제적 영향과 슬로시티관광개발에 대한 긍정적인 태도는 유지되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 증도주민의 관광에 대한 태도의 변화가 기존의 이론적 고찰을 통해 나타난 사례들과 유사하게 전개되고 있음을 밝히고 있다. 다만, 주민참여를 통한 지역민의 유대강화 등에 대한 태도가 긍정적으로 변해가는 현상은 기존의 사회적 혼란이론에서의 설명되던 경우와 다른 것으로 나타나 관광에 대한 태도의 변화가 슬로시티를 지양하는 개발의 방식에 대한 영향을 받고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 끝으로 본 연구는 슬로시티를 지향하는 증도의 관광개발에 대한 지역주민의 다양한 태도변화를 바탕으로 앞으로 증도의 개발이 지양해야할 점과 보완해 가야 할 점등을 제언하고 있다.
The goal of his study is to increase understanding about attitude changes of residents toward tourism development. In addition, this study offers some suggestions for improving Slowcity development process based on the result from empirical investigation. In order to accomplish this research object, this study first applies various theories such as social exchange theory, tourism life cycle theory, social carrying capacity, and social disruption theory to interpret the attitude changes of residents in Jeungdo. Then, it conducts survey to investigate the attitude changes in residents as development is going on. The focus of investigation and analysis is on finding the differences between before and after construction of the bridge "Jeungdo-Daegyo". The result of empirical investigation shows that the level of residents' satisfaction with harmony with neighbors is increasing. Based on this result, this study concludes there are some positive impact of slowcity tourism development idea such as social collaboration and residents participations to reduce the negative social tourism impact, even though overall attitudes of resident toward tourism development is in decline.
