This paper aims to study the meaning of the sage learning[聖學] through the critique of the modern-learning[物學]. In this paper I explore a framework of sage learning on T’oegye’s Ten Diagrams[聖學十 圖] text. The sage learning intends to carry the complementary practices of nurturing self. The Mindfulness[敬], the central theme of learning of the mind-and-heart[心學] lies in the doing. In contemporary education, the main discourse is the modern-learning imported from the west. The modern-learning[物學] fails to bring up wise human beings to know how to practice what they have learned. The reason of this situation is the absence of learning of the mind-and-heart on the modern-learning discourse. It reflects a need for the traditional twofold process of studying which means the learning of the mind-and-heart and principles things and nature. The sole purpose of the sage learning is becoming truly natural with self-mastery of the mind in daily life.
