정보사회가 도래하고 비대면성․개별성․확장성이 특징인 디지털 소통이 증대하면서 자유롭고 가벼우며 느슨한 인간관계가 확산되고 있다. 또한 정보통신기술의 확산과 함께 인터넷과 모바일 커뮤니케이션이 면대면 커뮤니케이션을 대신하는 새로운 커뮤니케이션 수단으로 각광받고 있다. 인터넷과 이동통신 덕분에 이제는 누군가가 아무리 시공간적으로 멀리 떨어져 있어도 ‘지금’ ‘여기에’ 있는 사람처럼 상호작용하고 접촉을 할 수 있게 된 것이다. 이 같은 새로운 커뮤니케이션 수단의 출현과 확산은 한국인의 가족구조와 생활양식에도 적지 않은 변화를 가져오고 있다. 변화의 방향은 양면적이다. 시공간의 제약을 받지 않고 다양한 지식과 정보를 습득하고 가족 구성원과 실시간 소통을 할 수 있게 됨으로써 가족생활과 가족 구성원들 간 관계를 더욱 풍요롭게 하는 긍정적인 측면이 있는가 하면, 가족과의 대화 단절, 자녀들의 일탈행동 증가 등과 같은 부정적 측면이 우려되기도 한다. 본고는 인터넷과 이동통신을 포함한 각종 정보통신기술의 발전이 가족관계와 가족생활의 변화에 미치는 영향을 다각적으로 살펴보고 그 정보사회적 함의를 도출한다. 조사 결과, 디지털시대에도 여전히 가족 구성원들 간 대면접촉이 활발하며 면대면 커뮤니케이션이 가족 구성원들 간 가장 중요한 소통의 채널로 애용되고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 동시에 이동통신을 통한 가족 간의 커뮤니케이션도 활발하게 일어나고 있으며, 가족공동체가 변화하는 시대에 맞춰 가족관계를 유지하고 나름의 집단정체성을 형성하기 위해 인터넷과 모바일 커뮤니케이션 수단을 전략적으로 활용하는 모습도 확인할 수 있다. 인터넷과 모바일 커뮤니케이션의 경우를 놓고 보면, 가족구조와 가족생활의 변화에 있어서 인터넷 매개 커뮤니케이션보다는 모바일 커뮤니케이션의 영향력이 그 폭과 깊이 면에서 훨씬 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 모든 정보통신기술이 모바일로 수렴되는 현실을 감안할 때 향후 상당 기간 동안 이러한 추세는 지속 또는 강화될 것으로 예상된다.

Along with the development and expansion of information and communication technology, including internet and mobile devices, and approaching an era of technological convergence, loose and flexible relationships between people are being spread. Accordingly, the Internet and mobile communications has been hailed as a new means of communication that replaces face-to-face interaction. With this trend, relationships between family members and their lifestyles are also changing rapidly. This paper analyzes the dynamics of informatization and family life, and their mutual relations, and further, attempts to derive sociological implications from this. As can be seen in the results of research, face-to-face contact is still in effect in a digital age. Furthermore, it is considered to be the most important and effective communication channels between family members as ever, irrespective of gender, age, and class. People in the digital age tend to utilize internet and mobile devices strategically, to form or maintain their own community identities and family relationships. With the progress in information society, the mobile communication is having a greater impact on the changes in family structure and people's lifestyle than internet-mediated communication. Given that all information and communication technologies are converging into a mobile, this trend will continue in the near future.
