우리는 칼레츠키와 브레머의 자본주의 진화와 다양성에 대한 논의를 하나의 사회질서와 제도로서 자본주의라는 이론적 시각에서 비판적으로 재구성할 것이다. 전체 글은 두 가지의 쟁점을 중심으로 구성된다. 첫 번째의 쟁점은 자본주의를 시간과 공간 개념을 통해 사고하는 것이다. 이것은 곧 자본주의 진화와 다양성에 관한 논의를 말한다. 자본주의의 역사적 진화와 공간적 확장에 대한 칼레츠키와 브레머의 인식을 논의의 출발점으로 삼아, 자본주의의 역사적 진화를 ‘중단 없는 확장적 동학’의 시각에서 보는 목적론적 입장에 대한 비판과 자본주의의 공간적 확장을 각 사회의 고유한 맥락에 대한 고려 없이, 구체적인 현실의 자본주의를 자본주의의 추상성으로 대체하는 주류 경제학적 입장에 대한 비판적 논의를 개진할 것이다. 두 번째 쟁점은 자본주의, 윤리, 그리고 정치의 문제이다. 자본주의와 윤리, 자본주의와 정치라는 논제에 대해 칼레츠키와 브레머의 입장을 무엇인지 확인하는 과정을 거쳐, 그들이 공유하고 있는 근원적 아디이어가 무엇인지를 규명하고자 한다. 불가피하게 이 모든 논의과정은 현재 우리가 통과하고 있는 자본주의 진화의 한 단계 혹은 한 유형으로 볼 수 있는 신자유주의적 자본주의에 대한 비판적 인식을 포괄하지 않을 수 없다. 이는 신자유주의적 자본주의가 자본주의 진화와 다양성 그리고 시장과 정치, 시장과 윤리의 관계에 대한 특정한 인식의 산물이기 때문이다.
This article provides a critical review of the evolutions and varieties of capitalism through readings of Kaletsky's Capitalism 4.0 and Bremmer's The End of The Free Market. In discussion on the two books, we focus on two theoretical issues. The first issue is what is the problem and limit of substituting specific features of capitalism in reality with abstractive forms of capitalism in theory, without taking unique contexts of different types of capitalism across time and space seriously. The second one is on our understanding the relationship between market and ethics and the relationship between market and politics. Inevitably, we should integrate our critical thinking of neo-liberalism into the discussions of two theoretical issues in that neo-liberalism itself represents a set of ideas of the dynamics and varieties of capitalism as well as the relationships among market, ethics, and politics in contemporary capitalism as a historical stage in the evolution of modern capitalism.
