Strength Intelligence Assessment, a two-dimensional test measuring both interest and ability, was used to assess students' multiple intelligence in order to find out whether students can be classified into latent groups. In particular, this study sought to describe the characteristics of the latent groups. For this, a total of 1,151 elementary school students in 3rd grade to 6th grade participated in the study. Latent profile analysis was then conducted on 8 indicators (linguistic intelligence interest, logic-mathematical intelligence interest, spatial intelligence interest, interpersonal intelligence interest, linguistic intelligence ability, logic-mathematical intelligence ability, spatial intelligence ability, interpersonal intelligence ability). As a result, the 4-class LPA model was identified as the optimal model based on the goodness of fit indices. The four classes were named as “low interest-average ability type (n=139, 12.1%)”, “average interest-average ability type (n=647, 54%)”, “average interest-low ability type (n=113, 10.2%)”, and “high interest-average ability type (n=252, 23.7%).” Next, Multiple Group Analysis was further analyzed to explore the differences between gender subgroups (male, female) and differences were found. The study described the gender differences in each linguistic, logic-mathematical, spatial, and interpersonal relationship intelligences in detail. The study is significant in that it highlighted the possible existence of a discrepancy between interest and ability among students. This implies that students' interest and ability levels should be considered together when identifying students' strengths through multiple intelligence assessment. Additional implications and limitations of this research were further discussed.
