이 연구는 인혁당 재건위 사건을 중심으로 국가폭력으로 인한 가족의 피해 유형과 구체적인 피해 사례를 살펴보았다. 가족 피해의 유형은 피해가 나타나는 차원과 피해의 종류에 따라 8가지로 분류할 수 있다. 피해의 차원은 국가, 생활공동체, 가족, 개인으로, 피해의 종류는 물리적 피해와 정신적 피해로 구분했다. 인혁당 재건위 사건의 가족 피해를 조사한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 먼저, 국가차원의 물리적 피해는 관계기관에 의한 불법연행 가혹행위생활공동체 차원의 물리적 피해는 해고, 폐업, 취업 불이익 등으로 인한 경제적 곤란이었고, 정신적 피해는 이웃에 의한 집단 따돌림과 고립이었다. 가족차원의 물리적 피해는 고등교육기회의 제한 등이었고, 정신적 피해는 가족의 해체, 친척관계 소외 등의 형태로 나타났다. 개인 차원의 물리적 피해는 고문후유증과 이로 인한 합병증 등 육체적 고통과 함께 외상 후 스트레스 장애, 우울증 등의 정신적 고통을 호소하는 경우가 많았다. 가족 피해의 치유와 관련하여 경계해야 할 것은 금전적 보상을 둘러싸고 나타나는 피해자간 경쟁과 피해의 정치화다. 인혁당 재건위 사건 가족들의 피해에 대한 치유도 이러한 위험을 경계해야 한다.

Victim research in post-conflict societies faces numerous problems. The nature of these problems is basically twofold: on the one hand, there are technical dificulties and, on the other hand, there are political dynamics that complicate the picture. The former barrier includes a lack of structured data, terminological problems and, to a certain extent, the issue related with victims themselves. The victim issue is very much related to interfering political dynamics that may cause real pitfalls for the researcher, namely victim competition and the politicization of victimhod. For the purpose of validating these arguments, the case of the Comittee to Restablish the Peoples Revolutionary Party, which Park Chung-hee regime called an organization attempting to overthrow the Korean state, is adopted.
