Hong Dae-Yong peculiarly wrote three volumes of travel itineraries unlike other contemporary authors. Each of them shares same thing but has characteristics of its own. Firstly, Huaewoorok(會友錄) aims to give special value on it by distinguishing most important experience from other experience during his travel. Conversation by writing was recorded in Chinese, common language of East Asia those days, and it became a great textbook with which many intellectuals in medieval Korea and Chinese exchanged their thought. Yeongi(燕記) tried to bring innovation on its way of construction which had been very familiar to Chinese intellectuals. Furthermore, He tried to provide a different point of view on China, and help people to have new correct understanding on China. Lastly, Eulbyungyeonhaeongrok (을병연행록) pays great effort to tell a story about travel in a very vivid description. It tried to give practical meaning to Korean readers by expending its reader to Korean readers as well as Chinese readers, and also tried to deliver entire aspect of Chinese travel. As shown above, Hong Dae-Yong's travel itinerary is a very peculiar text through the process of heading for two different directions, such as expending its readers and establishing new scholarship, and it also reflects an aggressive activity of an intellectual who coped with difficult situation of contemporary chosun, a world of contradiction.
