「장태문전」은 장태문의 英雄的 一代記를 그린 國文筆寫本 英雄小說이다. 영웅소설 중에서도 「유충렬전」과 특히 유사하다. 「장태문전」에 그려진 姑婦間의 葛藤도 일부 영웅소설과 장편국문소설에 나타난다. 「장태문전」은 주인공 측과 敵對勢力間의 대결이 반복적으로 전개되고 있는데, 그 對決의 樣相이 黨派 싸움이 본격화된 肅宗 이후의 政治現實과 관련성이 있다고 생각된다. 姑婦間의 葛藤에는 인물의 個我意識을 긍정하는 視覺이 나타나 있다. 17세기 이후 古小說史에서 인물들, 특히 女性人物의 個我意識과 自己主張은 否定的으로 그려지는 것이 일반적인데, 「장태문전」은 그렇지 않아, 古小說 作家의 人間에 대한 새로운 觀點을 발견할 수 있다. 「장태문전」의 筆寫記는 그동안 주로 빌려보기를 통해서만 流通된 것으로 이해되었던 筆寫本 古小說이 其實은 坊刻本이나 活字本과 같이 賣買의 방법으로도 유통되었다는 자료적 根據를 보여준다.

Namely, protagonist is born begetting a child in parent later years, loyalist is chased border areas because of condemnation on villainous retainer, family of protagonist is faced suffering, protagonist correct villainous retainer by confrontation power and recovers national rights, the betrothal and betrothal obstacle of protagonist appear in work, family of protagonist meet again and they come to happiness. 「Jangtaemunjun」 was effected 「Yuchoungyeuljun(유충렬전)」 directly. This is showed through structure, character arrangement and role. 「Jangtaemunjun」 was effected by long work Korean fiction Josun latter period. This is showed through domestic conflict. 「Jangtaemunjun」 reflects factious quarrels on Josun latter period. It is showed through power struggle between protagonist and opposition forces. 「Jangtaemunjun」 is appears conflict between concubine and daughters-in-law. The writer emphasized self-consciousness and self- assertive of human through conflict between concubine and daughters-in- law. The manuscript record of 「Jangtaemunjun」 shows grounds on trading distribution of copying version ancient novel.
