Seo, Jeong-min & Jo, Hak-haeng. 2006. An Optimality Theoretic Analysis of Stress Syllable Window. The Linguistic Association of Korea Journal, 14(3), 215-235. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stress syllable windows of main stress in Swahili, Central Raramuri, Spanish, Norwegian, Urban Hijazi, Cairene, and Palestinian. For this, after classifying the stress syllable windows typologically, which are found in stress domain, we will present the opacity problem. Following that, we will analyse the syllable windows within the framework of Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky, 1993), based on constraints rather than rules as in Generative Phonology. As a result, in this paper we claim that the stress syllable windows of the main stress result from both the foot pattern, the directionality of foot construction, and the stress pattern, and the prosodic information of the above individual languages.
