The constructions of possessives have been analysed from various points of view (cf. Freeze: 1992, Den Dikken: 1995, Bennis, Cover & Den Dikken: 1996). But studies of the above-mentioned constructions based on the comparison with the constructions of possessives in Spanish are rare. In this paper, we suggest a re-analysis of the constructions with SU in Spanish. In relation to this view, we propose that the possessive constructions with SU must be redefined. To addition, we propose that the possessives DE/SU are derived from the same construction. With respect to the preposition DE, we argue that the DE is analyzed as the overt Spell-Out of the head functional COP(ula) whereas the SU is derived by the incorporation of the functional COP to the D. The difference between the two constructions (DE/SU) lies in the Morphological Component.
