AB - The Linguistics Association of Korean Journal, 12(4), 103-120. This thesis aims to explain the grammaticalization of the auxiliary verb in the Jeju dialect concentrating on the '-eo du-' and '-eo bul-' constructions. First the fact that the constructions are on the process of the grmmaticalization is discussed. Following Lee(2001), this can be thought as the second step of the grammaticalization. That is, 'du-' and 'bul-' in the Jeju dialect have both the original meanings ('put' and 'throw or dump' respectively) and the derived meanings (resultative and perfect respectively). The mechanism of meaning change is metaphor. Next, the grammticalization principles are adopted to show the grammaticalization pattern of the the '-eo du-' and '-eo bul-' constructions. Finally, the grammtical properties of the constructions are discussed. Especially the fact that these constructions can have the aspectual meaning resultative and perfect respectively is noticed.
