This is ta study on consonant variation in the Seocheon-Chungnam dialect. In the creation of Chungnam dialect division, it is a well known fact that there are many different theories about transition zone and dialect areas that are caused by contact with Kyungki dialect and Jeolla dialect which are near Chungnam. In connection with this, its very important to study the Seocheon dialect which is geographically near Jeonbuk. A subunit of language, dialect is divided into regional dialect that is based on area and social dialect that is based on social factor. This study focuses on regional dialect. Language changes. It is influenced by variable conditions, limitations of environment and time. The former focused on a variation in the synchronic linguistic point of view. The latter focused on a variation in the diachronic linguistic point of view. I'll study more detail about that in the future because of restricted material. In conclusion, this study focuses on the variation aspects in regional dialect different from the Seoul dialect. The contents in this study are as follows : 1. Aspects of labialization appears in /n/․/ŋ/․/l/․/s/․/tʰ/→[m], /s/→[p], /tʰ/→ [p] such as /sinpal/→/simpal/. 2. Aspects of velarization appears in /n/․/m/→[ŋ], /pʰ/→[k] such as /tankol/→/taŋkol/. 3. Aspect of palatalization appears in /k/→[ʧ], /k'/→[ʧ'], /kʰ/→[ʧʰ], /h/→[s] such as /kimi/→/ʧimi/. 4. Aspect of aspiration appears in /k/․/k'/→[kʰ], /t/․/tʼ/→[tʰ], /p/․/pʼ/→[pʰ], /ʧ/․/ʧ'/→[ʧʰ] such as /kop'i/→/kʰp'i/. 5. Aspect of fortition appears in /k/→[k’], /t/→[tʼ], /p/→[p’], /s/→[sʼ], /ʧ/→[ʧ’] such as /kasi/→/k’asi/. 6. Aspect of spirantization appears in /t/․/tʰ/․/ʧ/․/ʧʰ/→[s] such as /patʰi/→/pasi/.
