이 글은 구비설화 연구에 있어서 지역어의 문제를 어떻게 다룰 것인가를 고민한다. 구비문학은 말로 하는 문학 행위이며 철저히 발화자의 살아있는 언어로 재현된다. 구비설화야말로 지역어로 된 대표적인 문학 텍스트라 할 수 있다. 구비설화 연구에 있어서 지역어의 문제는 그만큼 중요하며 본질적인 부분이라 할 수 있다. 먼저 구비설화에 접근하기 위해서는 원문에 대한 1차적 해독이 필요하다. 한국 방언의 능통자가 아니라면, 연구자 자신의 출신지역이 아닌 타지역의 구비설화 원문을 해독하는 것은 상당히 어려운 작업이다. 따라서 설화 원문의 각종 지역어 어휘에 대한 정확한 조사와 해독이 필요하며 지역 방언 연구자와의 공동 연구도 필요하다. 설화 구술 현장에서 구연자들은 기록문학의 서술자와 같이 이야기 속 사건을 전달하는 기능을 수행하지만, 소설의 서술자와는 다른 양상을 보인다. 구비설화 연구에 있어서 서사의 서술자와 등장인물의 발화 양상에 대해 지역어가 어떻게 구현되고 있는지, 문학적 효과와 특징은 무엇인지 보다 면밀한 연구가 필요하다. 지역어는 텍스트 소통과 생성의 측면에서 주요 기능을 수행하기도 한다. 특히 발화자와 청자 사이에 공유되는 지역어 코드에 의해 텍스트가 생성되고 소통되는 경우, 해당 지역어를 제대로 모르는 사람은 텍스트를 둘러싼 소통 자체가 불가능하다. 문학적 커뮤니케이션의 장에서, 지역어라는 코드를 통한 의미작용에 대한 논의가 활성화되어야 할 것이다.
This paper has the aim to search for new research directions and subject matters in the field of study of oral narrative. A oral narrative is a result of literary act with words and it is produced by the living language. Study on the problem of dialect in narratives are very important and essential. Therefore, the issue of dialect in the field of study of oral narrative is very important and essential. First, we need to correct reading and understanding the text in order to access it. In General, the text produced in dialect which is not hometown's is not easy to read and understand. Thus, we have to investigate and decode the various dialect words in oral narrative text and team up with dialect researchers or experts. Second, we have to close reading and research the voice of narrator and character in the oral narrative text. Unlike the narrator of the novel, the narrator of oral narrative can not be completely separated in the story, thus the oral narratives have a different number of case of speakers. Third, the dialect is also an important function in terms of text production and communication. The dialect tells an important meaning of the text and gives a decisive inducement to construct plot and a hint to figure out the story in oral narratives. Lots of attention in dialect in literature and research about signification through the use of dialect in the oral narrative texts is required.
