서사문학 작품의 서술자는 이야기 감상에 큰 영향을 준다는 점에서 중요하다. 어린이 서사문학 작품에서도 마찬가지이다. 그러나 어린이 독자는 대부분 서술자에 관한 인식 없이 작품을 읽는다. 하지만 학생들에게 서술자의 중요성을 알게 하고, 그것으로 깊이 있게 작품을 감상하도록 가르치는 교육이 필요하다. 그러려면 문학교육은 서술자의 기능과 유형을 가르쳐야 한다.동화의 서술자는 소설과는 달리 존재성이 중요하다. 서술자의 존재성은 이야기를 들려주는 이의 존재 특성이다. 이것은 소설에서 보는 서술자의 위치나 서술 기법보다 쉽고 의미 있게 어린이 독자에게 이해된다. 동화문학의 독자성을 드러낸다는 점에서도 서술자 존재성은 중요하다. 이 글에서는 동화의 서술자 존재성을 유형화하고, 그것을 가르칠 때 얻게 되는 교육적 의의를 밝혔다.
Narrator of fictional narration has an effect on readers. So does children's fictions. But children practically read fictions not being aware of the narrator. If teachers teach that students can read recognizing the narrator of fictions in elementary school, they can appreciate children's fictions better than they can't. Therefore, we should plan to educate that elementary students can understand narrator of fictions and they read fictions to aware it. For making plan to teach about narrators of fictions, I examined and analyzed the types of narrators in children's fictions. The types of characters as narrator in children's fictions examined four types in children's fictions. They are adult narrator, child narrator, impersonate narrator and voiceless narrator. Among them, voiceless narrator include picture narrator and dramatic narrator. If we read children's fictions to recognize narrator, then I think that we can acknowledge unique narrators in children's fictions differ from in novels. We should consider this point. Teaching various narrator to elementary students gives good value for them to appreciate children's fictions. According to my study, we must instruct students in narrator of fiction in elementary school. If we do, various narrator on this paper will help prepare for pedagogic contents.
