교육의 질을 결정하는 핵심으로서의 학습 내용 선정은 과학적이고 객관적이어야 한다. 학습자의 언어 발달 단계와 언어 경험에 부합하기 때문에 누가 보더라도 수긍할 수 있는 내용이어야 한다. 국어과의 경우 학습자의 언어 경험을 매우 중요하게 다루고 있지만 학습에 대한 동기와 흥미 유발과 관련해서 강조하고 있을 뿐이다. 그러나 학습자의 언어 경험은 학습에 대한 동기와 흥미를 유발할 때는 물론이거니와 학습자의 발달 단계와 학습 수준에 맞는 학습 내용을 뽑아 낼 때 더 중요하게 고려되어야 한다. 이 글에서는 그 동안 국어 지식 영역의 학습 내용이 어떻게 선정되었는지를 살펴보았다. 제6차, 제7차 국어과 교육 과정의 국어 지식 영역의 학습 내용을 분석하고, 국어 지식 영역의 학습 내용 선정과 내용 체계화 방안에 대한 몇몇 논의를 비판적으로 검토했다. 이 연구는 학습자 중심의 국어 지식 내용을 선정하기 위한 과학적이고 객관적인 방법론을 개발하기 위한 선행 과정으로 진행하였다.


The selection of learning content is a core factor which decides the quality of education and is required to be as scientific and objective as possible. The selection of learning content is needed to be as acceptable as possible since it must correspond to the learners' level of linguistic development and their experience. In the case of the Korean language as a subject, the learners' linguistic experience is considered to be very important, but it is only related to the learners' motivations and interests. However, the learners' linguistic experience should be considered more when teachers choose and select the proper contents in terms of the learners' level. This study has discussed how the learning content within the area of knowledge about the Korean language is chosen and selected, It has analysed the learning content within the area of knowledge about the Korean language in the 6th, 7th national curriculum and has also critically examined a few arguments on the selection of learning content and its organization within the area of knowledge about the Korean language.
