이 연구는 문학토론의 실천에 있어서 핵심이 되는 요소를 밝히고, 이에 근거하여 문학토론 시 소설 해석의 소통 양상을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그동안 문학교육에서는 학습자들이 수행하는 해석에 가치를 부여해 왔으며, 그로 인해 해석의 다양성은 이제 문학교육 공동체 내에서 공준(公準)된 중요한 개념이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 다양한 해석이 학습자의 해석 능력 신장으로 이어지기 위해 필요한 교육적 장치에 대한 연구는 부족했던 것으로 보인다. 이 연구에서는 해석의 다양성이 해석의 객관성과 주관성 사이에서 균형을 잡기 위한 방법으로 문학토론을 제안하였다. 소설에 대한 문학토론을 연구 대상으로 삼은 까닭에 문학토론 자료는 서사이론을 틀로 삼아 분석하였다. 그 결과 허구적 삶의 문제 사태에 대한 의미 교섭, 미적 형상화의 특성에 대한 상호작용, 텍스트의 공적 가치에 대한 의사소통이 일어남을 알 수 있었다. 해석과 소통을 핵심적 계기로 삼는 문학토론의 교육적 가치는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독자는 문학토론을 통해 문학 텍스트에 관여하는 제반 요소를 중층적으로 학습할 수 있고, 둘째, 문학토론은 해석의 결과만이 아니라 과정까지 가시화함으로써 학습 독자의 해석 능력을 신장시킬 수 있는 계기를 마련하며, 셋째, 해석의 적절성과 타당성을 확보할 수 있다.
This study aims to describe the key elements of literary discussion and present the aspects and operation mechanism of literary discussion. The appropriateness of interpretation, validity of interpretation and diversity of interpretation are considered important things in literary education. But until now, there are no specific plan for educating these. This study suggest that literary discussion is a balance weight between appropriateness of interpretation and validity of interpretation. In this sense, the activity which the readers share own interpretation with other members in a discussion group, compete with others for determine what interpretation is more appropriate and reasonable, and deepen their own interpretation and widen the horizon of interpretative community is named as literary discussion. The literary discussion has core contents that ‘interpretation’ and ‘communication’. Also, the literary discussion is centred around ‘situations of fictional life’, ‘features of aesthetic representation’, and ‘public values of literary text’. (1) The participants discuss about the oriented values in fictional world. (2) In terms of aesthetic representation, the participants discuss about style of writing, the architecture of literary text, and narrator. (3) Lastly, the public values of literary text are treated based on intertextuality. The literary discussion is an important goal of literary education. Because the most important thing of literary discussion is expansion and intensification of student-readers’ responses. Through the study, it can be expected to continue in another studies.
