A Study on the Significance of Subject Content Knowledge in an Elementary School Literature Class－Focused on folktale based Class－

이 글은 교과내용 지식이 문학 수업에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 교과 전문가로서의 교사의 소질이 수업을 좌우하는데 중요한 요건이라는 것을 초등 국어 문학 수업을 예로 들어 검토했다. 중등에 비해 초등은, 교과지식의 중요성이나 비중이 상대적으로 소홀히 인식되기도 하나, 그 중요성을 간과해서는 안된다. 학습 목표를 달성하는데 중요한 요건임에 틀림없다. 이 글에서 관찰한 수업은 민담을 제재로 인물과 배경의 특성을 탐구한 수업이다. 교사는 교육연극적 기법을 활용해 생동감 넘치는 수업을 전개했다. 그런데 수업은 맥락에 따른 배경과 인물의 특성을 검토하기보다 특정 공간에서 인물이 겪었던 심리상태를 소개하는데 그쳤다. 이러한 수업 결과는, 교과 내용 지식을 적절히 활용하여 학습 활동을 체계적으로 설계하지 못한 데 따른 것으로 판단된다. 민담의 특성을 파악하고 이를 효과적인 교수․학습 방법으로 적용했을 때 배경과 인물의 특성을 고려한 읽기 역시 가능했으리라는 것이다. 이는 수업의 모형이나 형식도 중요하나 교과 내용이 보다 강조돼야 한다는 것을 입증하는 사례라 하겠다. 굳이 교수학습전환이라고 하지 않더라도 교사에겐 교과의 내용 지식을 수업에 잘 적용하는 능력이 중요하다는 것이다.
