This study was to find out how the industrial mission, the motive power for Korean democratization movement against Revitalizing Reform and the lead of labor movement, started and its characteristics. As the result, the industrial mission was the modernization project of Asian countries according to social responsibility of World church and American church post World War II; it turned out they had continuous interest and supported both materially and spiritually. American church managed and supervised the industrial mission persistently by concretely directing not only finances, but education as well as the progress process from the beginning. Their purpose of inducing the industrial mission to Asia was to anticipate and prepare the problems Asia would face and ultimately alleviate the shock, as it was rapidly industrialized. In the beginning of the industrial mission, Korean church recognized the industrial mission simply as a mission industry with the absolutely support of American church, for there was no preliminary understanding of industrial society. However, the very poor reality of laborers and field experiences gave great shock and conscientized the staffs in charge of Industrial Mission, pastors with conservative faiths. The industrial mission interested were assured that the path Korean church should take is to understand the industrial mission and work for labourers. Nevertheless, church looked away from the industrial mission with inhospitality and contradictory actions.
