What did Yeongjo intend to teach the eldest son of the crown prince? Yeongjo wrote a lot for the education of the crown prince and his eldest son. Those writings include many admonition writings, such as 『Sanghoon(常訓)』, 『Jaseongpyeon(自省篇)』,  『Simgam(心鑑)』and 『Choongoongyukjam(春宮六箴)』 and his continuous passion for writing made him publish 『Johoon(祖訓)』, 『Sokjaseongpyeon(續自省篇)』 and 『Gyeongsemoondap(經世問答)』  in his last few years. Besides the number of poetry and prose writings he composed to show to the eldest son of the crown prince was about two thousands. It seems that Yeongjo wrote and studied to consider the effective value by a sense of political purpose rather than to pursue genuine scientific values. The motive and purpose of writings reveals this point and the emotion and impression in his writings also suggest that. Education for the eldest son of the crown prince by Yeongjo focused on the royal prerogative. For this, Yeongjo always emphasized and confirmed that the eldest son of the crown prince would succeed the crown. What was in Yeongjo's mind all the time was a matter of a suzerain. Yeongjo wrote materials to exclude experience education, which was considered to be shallow and short of sincerity to Yeongjo, and give the first consideration to language from his sincere heart for the education. The contents of the education are mainly classified into three categories. The first one was a matter of the orthodoxy of history and royal authority. The second one was a matter of filial piety and brotherly affection. Yeongjo, who admitted that he was a legitimate successor to the throne by strongly emphasizing and practicing duty of filial piety and brotherly affection, also tried to fix defects of the eldest son of the crown prince by clan rules. The third one was about love of the people. Yeongjo's mind to love the people was for meeting request of providence and ancestors. He especially encouraged the eldest son of the crown prince to pray for a fruitful year for the people. The succession between Yeongjo and the eldest son of the crown prince was unrighteous according to clan rules. To overcome the limitation, Yeongjo called the eldest son of the crown prince the crown prince and made him be a successor of prince Hyojang. That was the first step to secure the order of clan rules for succession to the throne. And then it was necessary to raise the position of Hyojang for the next step. This, somewhat, suggested the possibility of Hyojang to become the next king. As shown above, Yeongjo's awareness of royal authority was in securing the orthodoxy of royal authority and succeeding to ancestors' custom.
