조선족설화는 문헌으로 전승되는 개인작이기 때문에 구비설화에 비하여 변이가 제한적일 것으로 생각될 수 있다. 그러나 조선족설화의 전승과 유통의 현실은 그렇지 않다. 조선족설화의 변이는 구비설화와는 달리 의도적인 경우 가 대부분이다. 조선족설화의 변이에는 조선족설화가 개인작이 아니라 조선 족의 설화, 조선족의 구비설화라는 막연한 인식이 깔려 있다. 조선족설화 가운데에는 작자의 의도나 주제가 달라질 정도로 변이된 경우 가 있다. 발표와 출판의 과정에 당국과 출판사, 그리고 편집자가 개입된 결과 이다. 출판 여건 때문에 일어난 변이도 있고, 정치사회적 이데올로기와 조선 족설화에 대한 인식 때문에 변이된 경우도 있다. 전승과 번역의 과정에 제목 이 변이되어 다른 작품으로 인식되는 경우도 있다. 같은 제목을 가진 다른 유 형의 작품도 있고, 다른 유형의 작품들이 같은 제목을 갖게 된 경우도 많다. 조선족설화의 변이에서 가장 심각한 것은 제보자와 정리자가 바뀌는 현상이 다. 작가의 변이에 의도성이 개입되었다는 것은 남의 작품을 도용한 것이 된 다. 이는 조선족설화의 전승과 유통에 혼란을 제기할 뿐만 아니라 작품의 신 뢰성에 심각한 의문을 제기한다. 조선족설화의 변이는 연구의 대상에 따라 결과가 달라질 수도 있다는 것을 의미한다. 같은 작가의 작품이면서도 어느 문헌에 수록된 것이냐에 따라 연구 의 결과가 달라질 수 있을 정도로 변이가 심한 경우가 있다. 따라서 작품의 서지 정보를 정확하게 밝혀야 함은 물론 연구에 앞서 원본을 찾는 노력이 선 행되어야 할 것이다.

It is usually thought that the folk tales of Chosunjok have no alteration in the process of transmission. The reason is that the folk tales have been handed down in the form of books. But in reality, there exist so many versions of the same tale. The alteration of the folk tales of Chosunjok is different from that of the oral folk tales of Chosunjok in the fact that the alteration of the folk tales is sometimes intentionally made by some specific authors. This phenomenon happens in the wrong concept that the folk tales of Chosunjok are not the stories written by individual authors but a part of the oral folk tales of Chosunjok people. As the folk tales of Chosunjok are the results of individual authors, not only the names of the reporters and the person who arranged the stories but also the bibliographical information of the books which the folk tales are contained should be published, too.
