According to the leadership guru, John Maxwell, a simple definition of leadership is influence. In that sense, John Calvin was not only a prominent theologian, but a great leader because his thoughts have a strong influence on every aspect of modern society such as politics, economics, and cultures. This article seeks to highlight his leadership, which tackled the power threatening to disrupt the reformation of the church. This paper argues that Calvin's leadership style as charismatic even if there is no evidence of charisma in his early ministry. However charisma was gradually granted to Calvin as he faithfully carried out his duties in the Geneva church. He was a man of action. When his first attempt to strengthen the reformation in Geneva failed, he never compromised to maintain his position. His pastoral experience in Strasbourg of refuge became his foundation to transform the Geneva Church and State to a 'God‐fearing' city under the undeniable rule of the Church. His courage with action has served as profound lesson for all Korean pastors.
