이 연구는 대통령의 말이나 대통령에 대한 말을 사회언어학적 방법으로 분석함으로써 대통령과 관련된 언어적 특별 대우에는 무엇이 있는지를 밝히는 것이 목적이다. 곧 ‘대통령 전용말’ 또는 ‘21세기 새 궁중말’의 사용 실태를 살펴보고, 대통령을 일반인과 달리 대우함으로써 어떤 효과와 부작용이 있는지를 비판적 관점에서 파악하였다. 구체적으로 2장에서는 대통령 전용말의 목록을 제시한 후 ‘사용 시기, 전용성의 정도, 사용 방식 및 방향’의 측면에서 표현의 유형을 나누어 보았다. 3장에서는 대통령 전용말의 쓰임 실태를 ‘주체, 맥락, 시대’의 세 가지에 따라 살펴보았다. 4장에서는 대통령 전용말의 기능과 문제점을 종합적으로 논의함으로써 현재 사용되는 대통령 전용말을 비판적 관점에서 검토하였다. 이러한 과정을 통하여, 대통령 전용말이 앞으로 어떤 방향으로 바뀌어야 할지에 대한 견해를 제시하였다.
The purpose of this study is that we clarify the red-carpet treatment for the Korean President in the use of Korean language by analyzing the President's speech and the expressions of others to him from the sociolinguistic perspective. We wish to examine the usages of exclusive expressions for the President closely, and find whether there are some effects or side effects as a result of the respectful treating the President unlike ordinary peoples. In chapter 2, we suggest the repertoire of expressions for President exclusive, and then we classify the types of them concretely according to the period, degree of exclusive, method, and direction of using them. The concrete usages of exclusive expressions for the President are investigated in chapter 3, according to three viewpoints of the subject, context, and period of using them. In chapter 4, the function and problem of the expressions for President exclusive are examined synthetically. We discuss the significance of them from a critical viewpoint. Through this process, we quoted our views about which the expressions for the President should change to what direction from now on.
