이 연구에서는 국가 재난 수준의 ‘메르스 사태’를 다룬 시사 토크 프로그램의 방송언어 청정성을 4가지 범주, 12가지 항목에 따라 평가하였다. 60분당 오류 개수에 항목별 가중치를 반영한 평가 수치를 보면, 공공성 범주와 정확성 범주의 오류 빈도가 높고, 세부 평가 항목별로는 ‘부정확한 자막 표기’의 사용 빈도가 가장 높고, 그 뒤를 이어 ‘불필요하게 어려운 표현’, ‘부적절한 어휘’, ‘품격이 낮은 표현’, ‘폭력적 표현’ 순으로 나타났다. 이에 근거하여 방송 프로그램별로 청정성을 살펴본 결과, 가장 청정한 프로그램은 ‘일요진단(6월 7일)’으로, 가장 청정하지 않은 프로그램은 ‘강적들(7월 1일)’로 평가되었다. 그런데 평가 항목별 순위에서는 ‘차별 표현’과 관련하여 ‘강적들(7월 1일)’은 ‘매우 청정함’으로, ‘일요진단(6월 7일)’은 ‘청정하지 않음’으로 평가되었고, ‘품격이 낮은 표현’과 관련하여 ‘일요진단(6월 7일)’은 ‘매우 청정함’으로, ‘강적들(7월 1일)’은 ‘매우 청정하지 않음’으로, ‘편파 표현’과 관련하여 ‘일요진단(6월 7일)’은 ‘매우 청정함’으로, ‘강적들(7월 1일)’은 ‘청정하지 않음’으로 평가되었다. 따라서 전체 평가 항목을 종합하여 청정성을 평가하는 방식과 함께 세부 평가 항목별로 청정성을 평가하는 방식을 도입하는 것이 방송언어 개선 효과를 높일 수 있는 방법임을 알 수 있다.
This study focuses on establishing a theoretical foundation on which a “cleanliness index” of current affairs programs and TV talk shows can be calculated, and on diagnosing the cleanliness of current affairs talk show programs accordingly. This is intended to evaluate the present broadcast language status and to improve upon it with a qualitative evaluation of the broadcast programs, in relation to the comments of falling standard of the broadcast program qualities due to the excessive competition among the broadcasters since the reorganization of the broadcast market since 2011. To this end, among the current affairs talk show programs televised from July to August in 2015, 10 episodes from four terrestrial TV programs and six general programs including ‘MERS’ are targeted to diagnose the status of broadcast language. As a result, it was diagnosed that among the ‘MERS’-related current affairs talk show programs, the program with the highest clean broadcast language was ‘일요진단’ broadcasted on the 7th June, and the program with the lowest index was ‘강적들’ broadcasted on the 1st July. And the episode of the program ‘이슈를 말한다’ aired on the 7th June was diagnosed as clean, but the episode of the program ‘이슈인사이드’ aired on the 3rd June was diagnosed as not clean. The episode of ‘뉴스파이터’ broadcasted on the 4th June was diagnosed as normal.
