이 연구는 싱가포르 한국학교의 국어교육에 대한 사례 분석을 통하여 해외 한국학교 국어교육의 지향과 현황을 알아보고, 해외 한국학교의 국어교육 프로그램 개선에 관한 아이디어를 제공하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 그를 위하여 싱가포르 한국학교의 교육과정과 교수-학습 자료, 평가 자료를 분석하고, 교장과 교사, 학생 및 학부모를 면담하였으며, 정규 초등학교와 토요학교의 국어 및 다른 교과 수업을 관찰하였다. 연구의 신뢰성을 높이기 위하여 대사관과 한인회의 관련자와 면담하였으며, 싱가포르 일본인학교 및 호치민과 상해, 자카르타의 한국(국제)학교 자료도 참고하였다. 기초 조사 결과 싱가포르 한국학교는 국적 교육과 현지 적응 교육, 문서로서의 제7차 교육과정과 현지화 한 학교 교육과정, 한국학교 자체의 완결된 교육 시스템과 현지 학교 및 국제 학교와 연결된 교육 시스템 사이의 긴장 관계 속에서 국어교육을 실시하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 긴장은 영어·중국어 중심의 생활 언어의 압박, 학교의 언어 환경과 학교 밖의 언어 환경의 차이, 중학교를 국내/현지 중 어디로 진학할 것인지에 대한 고려로 인해 더욱 첨예화 되고 있다. 그에 따라 국어교육의 방향이나 교수법에 대해서도 일반적인 국어교육 방법에서 외국어로서의 한국어교육 방법에 이르기까지 상황에 따라 다양하게 접근하고 있었다. 이와 같은 문제는 해외 한국학교의 국어교육이 태생적으로 가지는 문제로서, 일거에 해결하기보다는 기초 여건을 개선하고 학부모의 인식을 제고하면서 조금씩 해결해 나가야 하는 문제다. 이 연구에서는 그와 관련하여 해외 한국학교용 국어교육 프로그램 개발과 한국학교 지원센터 설치를 제안했거니와, 그에 관한 구체적이고 실질적인 성과물들을 이끌어낼 때 의도한 효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이다. 특히 한국학교를 위하 여 정규 초등학교 국어 교과서의 해설본을 만드는 일을 가장 먼저 해결해야 할 과제로 제시한 바, 이러한 작업을 통해 좁게는 싱가포르 한국학교의 국어교육 프로그램을 개선하고, 넓게는 재외 동포를 위한 국어교육 프로그램의 방향을 찾아갈 수 있을 것이다.

I, in this article, intended to research the present condition and efficient methods of Korean language teaching at overseas Korean schools through the case of 'Singapore Korean School(SKS)'. In order to collect informations about the topic, I analyzed the curriculum, textbooks, and evaluation data of Korean language teaching of SKS and interviewed the principal and teacher, students and parents. I observed the classes of primary school and Saturday Korean school, too. And I tried compare the SKS's case to 'Singapore Japanese School' and Korean International School of Shang Hai, Ho Chi Min City, and Jakarta. According to the collected informations, I know that Korean language teaching of SKS has some conflicts between Korean national education and localized education to Singapore, the 7th national curriculum of Korean MOE and SKS's Singapore oriented school curriculum, and Singapore's educational system and Korean educational system that SKS based on. Moreover, the problem is getting worse by influences of English and Chinese used in Singapore, difference of language using environment between inside and outside of school, and confusion of the choice to secondary school. To solve these problems, it needs that reform the fundamental of Korean language teaching and changing of parents' consciousness about Korean language teaching. In this article, I suggested that improving the "Korean Language Teaching Program for Overseas Korean Schools" and establishing the "Centre for Research and Development for Overseas Korean School". Especially, I emphasized the necessity of development an "Adapted Korean Language Textbooks for Overseas Korean School."
