본고에서는 선우휘의 단편소설에 나타난 인물들의 주체 분열 양상에 주목하고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 인물들이 이데올로기의 호명에 응답을 거부하고 타자의 응시를 회피하면서 주체의 분열을 일으키는 부분에 주목할 것이다. 다음으로 욕망의 근원지인 실재와의 만남을 통해서 주체가 분열되는 양상을 살피고자 한다. 이는 곧 인물들이 현실 속에서 환각이나 오인을 일으키는 경우와 맞물리기도 하거니와, 주체로의 완성을 기하는 단계에서 형성된 심리적 기재라고 할 수가 있다. 마지막으로 인물들이 외부세계와 관계 맺기를 시도하고, 상징적 질서에 편입하려는 양상을 보겠다. 이때 인물들은 아버지로 표상되는 질서와 법, 곧 상징계적 질서가 요구하는 고통과 희생을 받아들이지 못하고, 자신을 끊임없이 소외시키면서 상상계로 퇴행하는 모습을 보인다. 상징적 질서를 받아들이는 과정에서 인물들은 타자를 인식하면서 죄책감을 느끼게 되고, 아버지로 표상되는 권력에 맞서 싸우는 모습을 보여준다. 선우휘 인물들의 주체 분열은 이처럼 다양한 형태로 진행되고 있다. 본고는 기왕의 논자들이 선우휘의 작품을 ‘행동지향성’, ‘반공이데올로기’, 그리고 ‘소박한 역사의식’으로 분석한 것과 달리, 정신분석학의 잣대를 들이댐으로써 작품 해석의 스펙트럼을 확장시켰다는 점에서는 의의가 있겠다. 그리고 ‘월남 체험(이북 태생)’이라고 하는 공통분모를 가진 작가들의 작품과 비교해 봄으로써 선우휘가 한국 문단에서 어떤 위상을 차지하는지를 규명해보는 것도 의미가 있으리라 생각되는데, 이는 추후의 연구과제로 남겨둔다.
In this paper, I want to focus on the subject split of the characters in Shon-woo, Hui's short story. For this, I will note a subject split aspect of the characters, denying calls of Ideology and ignoring other's gaze first. Next, I will focus on a subject split aspect through a meeting with the Real which is the root of desire. This looks alike with hallucination and misunderstanding in reality. Furthermore, it can be a psychological quality which is made in subject completion. Finally, I will look on an aspect that subjects try to make relationship with the outside world, and wants to transfer to the symbolic order. At this time, characters cannot accept rules and law known as father, that is, they cannot accept agony and sacrifice which are asked by symbolic order. And they are seen as they alienate themselves endlessly and regress to imaginary world. Accepting symbolic order, characters aware others and feel guilty, and they fight against authority known as father. Through this process, subject split of Shon-woo Hiu's characters are being progressed in various form. This paper is significant in a way that expanded the spectrum of literary interpretation taking Freudianism while others evaluate work of Shon-woo Hui as 'behavior-aimed', 'anticommunism ideology', and 'simple historical consciousness'. And I think that investigating Shon-woo Hui's status in Korean literary circles casts a long shadow, comparing to works of writers(such as Chang-sub Son, Ho-chul Lee) who has resemblance, 'birth of North Korea'.
