The Montage and Reality of World Literature in the 1960’s –Focusing on <The Anthology of World Post-war Literature>

이 논문에서는 신구문화사의 『세계전후문학전집』(1960-1962)을 통해 1960년대 세계문학의 문화적 기능과 그 의미에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 한국에서 세계문학전집은 1958년 전후로 발간되었으나 이 전집들은 일본의 것을 모방, 확대하며 ‘세계문학전집’ 그 자체의 물신적 기능에 충실한 전집이었다. 이에 반해 신구문화사의 전집은 ‘전후’라는 시대적 가치를 세계문학을 선별하는 원리로 삼아 서양 고전으로 한정된 종래의 전집 목록을 탈피하며 ‘문제성’이라는 화제를 통해 전후의 세계를 새롭게 축조하고 있는 전집이다. 이를 통해, ‘세계’와 ‘문학’이 어떻게 만나야 하는지 그리고 그 안에서 ‘전후’의 세계를 어떻게 사유하며 성찰해야 하는지 질문하고 있다는 점에서 그 문화사적 의의를 생각해 보았다.

This article is intended to examine the cultural functions and significance of world literature in the 1960’s with Shingu Publishing’s 『The Anthology Series of World Post-war Literature』(1960-1962). In Korea, the Anthology of world literature was published in 1958 after the war; however, the Anthology was just faithful to the materialistic functions of ‘the Anthology of world literature’ itself by imitating and extending Japan’s. Contrarily, Shingu Publishing’s anthology takes the periodic value of the ‘post-war’ era as the principle to select world literature and newly establishes the post-war world with the topic of ‘problematicity’ freed from the previous list of literature anthology restricted to Western classics. The has its significance in the history of culture in that it raises questions about how the ‘world’ and ‘literature’ should encounter and how we should meditate on the ‘post-war’ world in it.
