We have two aims in this paper. First one is to discover the word-formation principles of the refined words in North Korean. Second one is to examine the aspects of meaning change and the change of lexical relationships with other words in the refining process. In the process words are often refined to be phrases and refined words actively form asyntatic compounds, which are nonproductive word-formations in Modern Korean. The meaning change is divided into a meaning reduction, a meaning extension, and establishing homonymy. The refined words relates to idiomatic expressons and changes their lexical relations in the lexical field.
