본 논문은 국어과에서 자주 쟁점이 되고 있는 국어과 학습량의 문제를 다룬 연구이다. 국어과 학습량의 문제를 실증적‧이론적으로 분석하기 위해 교육과정과 교과서를 복합적으로 검토하는 관점을 취하였다. 연구 방법으로는 현장 중심의 실태 조사 방법과, 교육과정 및 교과서 내용에 대한 양적‧질적 분석 방법 두 가지를 함께 취하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 이 연구 결과를 통하여 새로운 교육과정에 이론적이고 실증적인 자료가 될 수 있는 기초 연구 내용을 제공하는 데 있다. 실태 분석 결과, 국어과에서 학습량의 문제가 심각한 단원으로는 초등학교 9개 단원, 중학교 21개 단원, 고등학교 9개 단원을 추출하였다. 내용 분석 결과, 분량(쪽수), 교육과정 내용 항목 관련 학습 목표, 학습 활동, 학습 시간, 텍스트 내용 수준 등의 복합적 부담 요인을 밝혔다. 이러한 실증적‧이론적 분석을 바탕으로 국어과 학습량 과다의 원인을, 학습 목표의 중복, 교육과정 내용 항목의 반복적 반영, 학습 활동의 과다, 학습 활동 수준의 난도 등으로 정리하였다. 이러한 학습량 문제의 해결을 위하여, 관련 교육과정 내용 항목과 교과서의 내용 반영도의 고려, 필수‧공통 내용 기준의 정립 등을 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data about contents' quantity in Korean language education for new curriculum and the textbooks. To satisfy the purpose of the study, it conducted 1) a nationwide questionnaire to get opinions from teachers. 2) the analysis of the 7th National Korean language curriculum, current Korean language textbooks. This study consists of five sections as follows: the first chapter introduces the current problems of the contents of Korean language education in primary, middle, and high schools. The second chapter analyses the outcome that we would conduct a questionnaire about the curriculum and textbooks. Concretely, we analyzed out 9 units of the primary, 21 units of the middle and 9 units of the high schools textbooks. The third chapter analyses both in quality and in quantity contents' quantity of the curriculum and textbooks. Concretely, we analyzed out measure, curriculum contents, goals, activities, time, texts' difficulty and so on. The four chapter proposed some suggestions from the analysis results of the questionnaire, the curriculum & textbooks. The five chapter described finish of this study.
