This study is to grasp the aspect of the lore on picking wild edible greens and to analyze the cultural meaning of the lore on picking wild edible greens by classifying the residents of a remote mountain village by generation. In traditional Korean society, wild edible greens have played a crucial role as a relief food source in years of famine, and they are also used a lot as side dishes in everyday life. Some particular wild edible greens were eaten and used as ceremonial food for Jeong-wol-dae-bo-rem (the day of the first full moon of the lunar year), Dano (the fifth day of the fifth month of the year according to the lunar calendar), Jaesah (commemorative rites for ancestors) and also, certain wild edible greens were used as medicine for flu, and measles; nowadays, wild edible greens are getting attention as a well-being food. Nevertheless, folkloric interests on wild edible greens until now has been slight so the research was done with a critical mind on this part. Seomi 1-ri, Pungsan-eup, Andong city, Gyeongbuk, which was chosen as a survey subject area, is a remote mountain village surrounded by deep mountains and hills. The subject residents' wild edible green picking activity was brisk between the 1960s and 1980s when a food shortage occurred due to economic and social reasons. The residents tried to solve the food shortage problems by picking edible wild greens in near by hills and mountains and eating them. The time and place for wild edible greens were considered as important factors in picking wild edible greens and these factors became the lore system in picking wild edible greens. Also, the lore aspect on picking wild edible greens is expressly based on the environmental adaptive logic. Eventually, the residents of Seomi 1 ri, the remote mountain village, tried to overcome the tough food shortage situation by adapting themselves to the natural environment such as picking wild edible greens and ingesting them.
