이 논문은 현대의 도시민속에 대한 논의를 도시사회에서의 삶과 결부된 시대적, 사회적인 변화과정과 연관시켜 논구해야 한다는 전제에서 이사민속을 분석한 글이다. 이를 위해 근대의 격랑 속에 형성된 지역인 부산의 ‘산복도로’를 중심으로 이곳에서의 이사민속에 담긴 사고를 파악하고자 했다. 이 논문이 조사대상으로 삼은 부산의 ‘산복도로’는 이향민에게는 ‘타향/고향’의 경계였고 이농민에게는 ‘농촌/도시’의 경계로, 그곳의 거주민들에게 이사는 일상이 되다시피 했다. 그러다보니 이사가 자주 치러지는 ‘산복도로’ 자체가 ‘행복/불행’이 엇갈리는 과도기적 공간으로서의 ‘경계’로 여겨졌다. 그 ‘경계’에서 ‘불행’을 물리치고 ‘행복’을 얻으려는 마음에서 도시의 이주민들은 ‘주술’을 동원하곤 한다. 현대 도시민속의 단계는 서사나 통과의례에서와 마찬가지로 ‘이사 전’과 ‘이사 당일’, ‘이사 후’로 나뉘어지며, 그 각 단계에서 이주민은 위기의식과 불안감을 해소하고자 갖가지 주술을 행한다. ‘이사 전’의 대표적인 주술로는 매매를 기원하는 여러 비방을 행하며, ‘이사 당일’에는 소금이나 쑥, 고춧가루를 뿌리며 부정을 물리치며, ‘이사 후’에도 집안을 정화하고 축귀를 기원한다. 이곳에서 행하는 갖가지 주술은 최소단위 공동체인 가족의 존재의 거소이자 정체성의 토대인 ‘집’을 지키는 방법이다. 그 ‘실존적 공간’을 지키려는 현대도시의 주민은 전래민속에서 행위나 물건, 이미지를 차용함으로써 가난과 소외로 인한 심리적 억압 해소라는 의도를 달성하고자 한다. 하지만 도시민들은 한낱 빈부격차나 사회적 편견 따위로 인해 차별받거나 인간적 존엄성이 훼손되고 공도체가 붕괴되는 사태를 받아들이려 하지 않는다. 그런 의미에서 이사에서 치르는 주술은 그런빈부격차나 사회적 편견을 낳은 현대문명에 길항(拮抗)하는 방식인 것이다.

This treatise aims at clarifying the meaning of ‘urban-folklore’ on which the multiplicity of aspects and requests of modern society are reflected. To put ‘urban-folklore shortly, it is that which is formed to be mixed with western civilization and Koreans’ traditional life style. This treatise deals the customs of magic which citizens carry out before and after removing their residence to reject unfortunateness and poverty. On that folklore, the archetypal collective subconsciousness is projected and transcended all the time and space. Therefore the archetypal image and action of nowadays are same with those of ancient times. By such theory, this treatise deals with the magic which is carried on the spaces and times of “liminal stage”, for example, to put coin on the door, to sprinkle salt on the street, and to give and take waterpaper as present. Most citizens accept and carry out the urban folklore because they don’t feel that they are responsible for their poverty or unfortunateness in society. Such thought and action has been originated from the repression under the pressure of political power or economic discrepancy. Against them, Korean citizens carry out magic to show that they are only affected temporal unfortunateness. At result, this urban folklore is measure to get psychological comfortness by themselves.
