The Type and Signifying Method of Ritual Mockup Boat－Centering on Toisong boat－

제의용 모형배는 굿청에 장식하는 용선(龍船)과 바다에 띄우는 퇴송배로 나눌 수 있다. 배는 단순한 장식물이 아니라 사용되는 물건이므로 어떤 과정과 맥락 속에서 의미화 되는지 살펴봐야 한다. 이 글에서는 실제 바다에 띄워지는 퇴송배를 중심으로 그 유형과 연행(演行) 의미를 고찰했다. 퇴송배 띄우기는 서해안·남해안·제주도 등에서 전승된다. 어촌지역의 제의는 ‘산-마을 주변-마을-바닷가-바다’로 이어지는 공간 이동을 보여준다. 퇴송배는 제의가 절정에 이른 후반부에 등장한다. 퇴송배는 두 유형으로 나눌 수 있다. 하나는 배 한 척을 띄워 보내는 것이고, 다른 하나는 여러 척의 배를 경주시키는 경조형(競漕型)이다. 퇴송배 띄우기에는 어촌 사람들의 독특한 해양 인식 태도가 반영돼 있다. 퇴송배 띄우기는 해양 타계관에 기초해서 바다 너머로 액을 내치고 삶터를 안정적으로 유지하고자 하는 바람을 행위화한 것이다. 생존을 위해서는 바다에서 적응하며 살아가야 하기 때문에, 그에 따른 적응 기제로서 퇴송배 띄우기라는 의례적 재현을 통해 자연을 문화화 한 것이라고 할 수 있다.

For ritual mockup boats, there are Yongsun, dragon boat to decorate gut headquarter and Toisong boat to set sail to the sea. Because a boat is not a decoration but a practical item, it needs to be examined how it is signified in what kind of process and context. Sailing a mockup boat is notable in that it is a detailed and actual performance to display marine underworld attitude. This article examines the types and the performance meaning of ritual boats by centering on Toisong boat which is actually set stail to the sea. Laungching Toisong boat is transmitted in the West Coast, the South Coast, and Jejudo. The rituals of fishing village show the space movement from ‘mountain-the vicinity of a town-a town-the coast-sea’. Toisong boat shows up at the latter half when the ritual is at its climax. Toisong boat can be categorized into two categories. One is sailing a boat and the other is a race in which several boats are set to race. Launching Toisong boat shows the characteristics of ocean belief well. Unique attitude of residents in fishing villages is reflected in Toisong boat. Launching Toisong boat, based on marine underworld attitude, is an act to reject misfortune and live life in a stable manner. For survival, people needed to get accustomed to the ocean, and as an adjustment mechanism, launching Toisong boat is an act to enculturate the nature through a ritual reproduction.
