The purposes of this study are to compare and analyze the systems of glossary and index shown in the present science textbook's biological field for Korean middle school students and『Science Plus』's biological field used in U.S., Canada, Australia, and U.K., and to provide students with more useful biological curriculums and more efficient textbook organization. The study results are as follows; The textbooks used in Korea are divided into two categories; first type is one that offers terms in the part of index in simple noun forms, and the other type is one that offers terms in the part of glossary together with corresponding pages and other terms in the part of index in simple noun forms. However,『Science Plus』, American textbook, offers terms and pages on which the terms are found in the part of glossary at the same time, also, its index part doesn't offer terms and related concepts in simple noun forms, instead, it gives terms and pages on which narrative dictions related with those terms are found at the same time. The 4 Korean publishing companies that publish science textbooks of middle school note pages at the part of index simply, and 5 kinds of science textbooks published by the 4 publishing companies took a more developed system that both glossary and index give pages. In the future, it would be desirable if Korean science textbooks for middle school will conduct more study activities about the systems of glossary and index, correct and supplement insufficient parts in the whole textbook system based on study results, and make students more easily obtain concepts through textbooks to improve systems helping them use textbooks more conveniently.
