This study researched on the perceptions of the candidates on the third examination of the recently revised competitive examination for employing secondary school biology teachers. A questionnaire survey and an one-on-one interview were used for this study. The subjects were twenty candidates in 2009, and twenty candidates in 2010, respectively. The result says that the time for teaching demonstration was insufficient to evaluate candidate's teaching ability. The alloted time for in-depth interview to test an aptitude for teaching was not enough, and it didn't include the content areas of biology. In addition, it was needed to have a proper interaction between interviewers and candidate. The experimental ability test was carried out only in some provinces, and the candidates perceived the experimental ability test is not enough to evaluate the expertise of a biology teacher. It is suggested that the third competitive examination should be strengthened by evaluating what is really needed for a "biology" teacher, not just for a teacher in general.
