This study investigated the experiences during divorce processes of 523 Busan residences(251 males and 272 females) who had submitted divorce applications to the family court. Based on our survey, the experiences during their divorce processes such as the time they had perceived each stage of a divorce process, the people they had counselled with, difficulties during the process, and their psychological states, were collected and analyzed for the four stages in a divorce process. The four stages are percept marital dysfunction, decide to divorce, couple separation, and act on legal divorce. In a divorce process, gender differences were found as following: (1) females perceived her marital dysfunction stage earlier than males while there were no significant differences in the times of perceiving other stages. (2) During divorce processes, females talked about their problem with their family members while males tended not to discuss their situation with anybody. However, (3) there were no gender differences in psychological states throughout divorce processes. (4) Although there were no significant gender differences in their experienced difficulties, both males and females reported difficulties in the different divorce stages. But in the second stage of deciding to divorce, both males and females reported problems on dealing with their children.
